Visit our preserves
Public Access
The Warren Land Trust welcomes visitors to explore our fee owned properties “Preserves” and have enhanced access with trails on three of these properties. While public access is not allowed on private properties with Conservation Easements, their protection are critical to protecting Warren’s rural beauty and support ecological conservation.
Viewing Platform: The public is invited to enjoy the viewing platform on our Eel Pond Preserve with a seating area from which wildlife and water plants can be observed. It is easily accessible for all ages and abilities from the parking lot along Route 341, north of the Warren General Store.
Please remember to carry out your trash, and use at your own risk.
Hiking: Warren Land Trust has hiking trails located on Dorothy Maier Preserve, Coords Preserve, Strong Preserve, Skidmore Preserve, Sunset Ponds Preserve, Willis Tanner Preserve (seasonal), Keith Preserve, Cunningham Nature Preserve and the Graham Brush Preserve (via CT Blue Blazed Mattatuck Trail). Please click on the following links to see the maps for the first four of the trails, and learn more about all of these Preserves and what you might find along the way. Additional maps for the remaining five trails will be uploaded soon.
The Coords Preserve trail is currently flooded due to a beaver dam 1/3 mile in from Angevine Road, making it impassible with no viable work-around. We are working on creating a detour. To access the far side of the trail, please use the Wyantenock State Forest parking area on Rt. 341.
In addition to hiking and walking, we welcome the following recreational uses of our Preserves:
Cross-country Skiing & Snowshoeing
Fishing
Scientific & Educational Studies (with written consent of the WLT*)
*Contact the WLT for written permission at info@warrenlandtrust.org
Due to concern for safety and the preservation of our Preserves’ natural resources, the following uses are not permitted on WLT properties:
Hunting
Logging
Removal/Destruction of Trees & Plants
Camping & Camp Fires
Operation of Mountain Bikes, All-terrain Vehicles (ATVs), and Snowmobiles
Any other use that would impair the conservation value of the property
