the warren land trust:

Founded by Warren residents in 1989, the Warren Land Trust (the “WLT”) is dedicated to the preservation of the rural character of Warren.

our Mission:

The WLT works to preserve farmland, open space, natural and endangered resources such as wetlands, forests and wildlife habitats, by encouraging the gifting of land and the use of conservation easements to permanently preserve open space. To date, we have over 793 acres under our protection, 11 fee properties and 15 conservation easements. Land under the protection of the Warren Land Trust is preserved and protected from development forever.

our purpose:

  • RURAL PRESERVATION: Protect core ecological systems and scenic corridors that define Warren’s rural character;

  • COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION: Build public support and actively engage the community in our conservation efforts;

  • STEWARDSHIP: Ensure that properties protected by the WLT are appropriately managed and maintained;

  • FUNDING: Secure adequate funding for ongoing operations and programming, land stewardship and land preservation;

  • OPERATIONAL COMPETENCE: Develop personnel, policies and procedures to meet (LTA) standards of excellence.

our Leadership:

We are a volunteer run organization, managed by a Board of Directors which is elected each year at our annual membership meeting in November. Click for more info on the WLT leadership:

Why is it important to be an accredited land trust?

The accreditation seal stands for Excellence - Trust - Permanence

The seal is a mark of distinction in land conservation. It is awarded to land trusts meeting the highest national standards. Each accredited land trust completes a rigorous review process and joins a network of organizations united by strong ethical practices. This trusted network of land trusts has demonstrated fiscal accountability, strong organizational leadership, sound transactions and lasting stewardship of the lands they conserve. The seal is awarded by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, a program of the Land Trust Alliance, created to build and recognize strong land trusts, foster public confidence in land conservation, and help ensure the long-term protection of land.
