THE GREEN LEAF Spring 2026
President’s letter
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
In some ways, the coming of Spring feels more like the turn of the year than New Year’s Day - a chance to look back while anticipating new things to come. And what a year 2025 was for the Warren Land Trust! We closed on two important, complex, and protracted land acquisition projects: the Tanner Farm and Mountain Lake Preserves. I hope you will read more about them in this newsletter, will join us at celebrations planned at both properties. Together with the Cunningham Nature preserve, WLT has significantly advanced protection of the Lake Waramaug watershed, as well as natural resources and wildlife habitat in Warren more generally. We also achieved our second round of reaccreditation from the national Land Trust Alliance, an important vote of confidence and seal of approval underscoring our consistent use of best practices in our field. We welcomed an incoming class of five new board members, who bring a mix of valuable skill sets, as well as energy and enthusiasm to our mission and work. You can check out their profiles on our website.
The new season ushers in equally exciting developments. We are moving forward with another high conservation value project in the Lake watershed, with spectacular scenery and exciting trail connectivity. Speaking of trails, we are working with Kent Land Trust to connect our preserves with theirs in a major new trails initiative. We take our responsibility to care for these important properties and our trails seriously, and are thus excited to announce that we have engaged a part-time stewardship associate - Zach Orluk - to help us fulfill this aspect of our mission. We hope you have a chance to meet Zach out on the trail soon… perhaps at one of the many events described in this newsletter!
Sincerely,
Rebecca
