After a lengthy and complicated acquisition process, the Warren Land Trust (WLT) has permanently protected two extraordinary properties: the 198-acre Tanner Farm and the 152-acre Mountain Lake Preserve.
Tanner Farm
On March 21st the Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC), the statewide organization that advocates for and supports land trusts, recognized this tremendous achievement by presenting the WLT with its Excellence in Conservation Organization Award.
Mountain Lake Preserve
CLCC noted that the effort was particularly remarkable because WLT is an entirely all-volunteer organization. Completing these two demanding and complex acquisitions—an undertaking spearheaded by WLT President Rebecca Neary and Vice President Elizabeth Chandler, supported by a determined board of energetic conservationists—required intense collaboration with regional partners, state and federal agencies, and private donors.
Together, these projects are sources of climate change resilience and places for great recreational opportunity within the Lake Waramaug watershed - safeguarding over 350 acres of high conservation value land and protecting native plants and habitat for wildlife on 1,200 adjoining acres of core forest - preserving prime farmland soils and keeping the historic Tanner Farm secured and operating.
